Oh, happy day! It’s June, so that means summer time! And that means barbecues, beach parties, backyard parties, wine tastings, music festivals and food festivals. Did I mention barbecues and food festivals?
I love June not only because it’s summer, but because it’s always loaded with great food celebration days. I mean it starts right off with National Hazelnut Cake Day and keeps it rolling on June 2 with National Doughnut Day, National Rocky Road Day and National Rotisserie Chicken Day. And we’re just getting started.
I’m beginning to think that I’m not the only one who likes food in the month of June.
OK, so June 3 is National Chocolate Macaroon Day and National Egg Day; there’s Applesauce Cake Day and National Cheese Day on the 4th; June 5th is National Veggie Burger Day and National Gingerbread Day; National Chocolate Ice Cream Day on the 7th; June 9th is National Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Day; 11th is National Corn on the Cob Day; June 12 is National Jerky Day and National Peanut Butter Cookie Day; National Strawberry Shortcake Day is the 14th; Fresh Veggies Day and National Fudge Day are on the 16th; and Eat Your Vegetables Day, National Apple Strudel Day and National Cherry Tart Day are all on the 17th.
Whew! But there’s even more:
The 18th is International Picnic Day and International Sushi Day; June 20 is National Ice Cream Soda Day and National Vanilla Milkshake Day; the 21st is National Peaches ‘N’ Cream Day; the 22nd, National Chocolate Eclair Day and National Onion Rings Day; the 23rd is National Pecan Sandies Day; June 24, National Pralines Day; June 25, National Strawberry Parfait Day; the 26th, National Chocolate Pudding Day; and (finally!) June 29, National Almond Buttercrunch Day and National Bomb Pop Day. I’m not even sure what a Bomb Pop is, but it has its own day!
I haven’t counted them all up, but I think June takes the cake for most food days! And in the middle of all that is June 21, summer solstice, the first day of summer, which we know involves a lot more food!
And June is also Aquarium Month, Candy Month, Dairy Month, Gay Pride Month, Rose Month, National Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month and my least favorite celebration, National Adopt a Cat Month (and Hug Your Cat Day on the 4th), although I have nothing against anyone else adopting (or even hugging, yuk!) one of those silly creatures.
Besides, there are better reasons to celebrate, such as National Cancer Survivor’s Day on June 4; Best Friends Day on the the 8th; Monkey Around Day is the 14th (I’m good at that!); smile big on the 15th because it’s Smile Power Day; and Take Your Dog to Work Day on the 23rd.
Well, I gotta run, I’ve got a lot of food to celebrate (and eat, of course). See you next month!
