Show of paws — how many of you kept your New Year’s resolutions? Congratulations, if you made it past Jan. 17, which was National Ditch New Year’s Resolutions Day. And if you didn’t, well, there’s always next year!
So far I’ve managed to stick to my resolutions. But then again, I didn’t really set the bar too high this year. See, the trick is, make resolutions you know you can keep, not stuff like end world hunger or become a millionaire or become more handsome, which is not a problem I need to worry about, if I say so myself.
To recap, here were my resolutions:
- Go on more walks with mom and dad and my siblings.
- Sleep more (if possible).
- Bark less (if possible).
- Take each day as it comes and don’t worry about tomorrow.
- Try not to irritate my siblings.
- Try to help out mom and dad around the house
I think I’ve pretty much stuck true to the first four. No. 5, well, I try, but sometimes it’s hard NOT to irritate them. I’ll try to stick to that one for as long as I can. And No. 6, I do try to help, but most of the time I tend to, uh, mess things up. So now I help out only when asked, which isn’t that often. But I’m keeping my resolution, right?
January was an important month, what with the inauguration of the president and all. But February is a pretty important month too, even if it only has 28 days.
It’s Black History Month, which has been around since 1976, but February also has Presidents’ Day, which celebrates the birthday of our first president George Washington (who was born Feb. 22), but also Abraham Lincoln, who was born Feb. 12.
It’s also American Heart Month and National Weddings Month, which makes sense since Feb. 14 is Valentine’s Day. In fact, love is in the air in February. Feb. 20 is Love Your Pet Day, Feb. 7 is National Send a Card to a Friend Day, National Make a Friend Day and National Shut-In Visitation Day are both on Feb. 11 and National Random Acts of Kindness Day and National Caregivers Day are onFeb. 17.
February also has a bunch of fun days, including Groundhog Day, Feb. 2. If Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow we’ll have six more weeks of winter. But if he doesn’t, spring will come earlier this year. I’m not sure what more winter means around here — more rain? I’m OK with that. Better than more drought!
Except during the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which is a great charity golf tournament that takes place the day after Super BowlSunday (Feb. 5), Monday, Feb. 6 through Feb. 12. Great weather means more money for charities, since more people come out when it’s nice and sunny.
Super Bowl is a big deal for people, but we Frenchies aren’t all worked up about it, except for the party aspect of it. It always involves great food and drinks, which is right up our alley!
Speaking of food and drink, February has a bunch of them: National Carrot Cake Day, Feb. 3; National Fettuccine Alfredo Day is Feb. 7; National Pizza Day is Feb. 9; National Crab Stuffed Flounder Day is the 18th; Cherry Pie Day is the 20th; Feb. 22 is National Margarita Day, the 23rd is National Chili Day.
And, one of mom’s favorite days — I think it’s a holiday for her — is National Drink Wine Day on the 18th!
Oh, and there are some days just for us, like Love Your Pet Day on the 20th, Walking the Dog Day on the 22nd and International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day on the 23rd. Mark those in red!
And don’t forget, Feb. 26 is Oscar Night and two days later it’s Mardi Gras!
See what I mean? February is a pretty exciting month! So get out there and have fun!
