Happy May! Just the other day I overheard someone say, “April showers bring May flowers.” I love that, not only because I love a rainy day, but I also like flowers, especially when I can see and smell some pretty flowers on the daily morning walks Mom takes us on.
But we didn’t get much rain in April, so does that mean there won’t be any flowers on our walks this month? I hope that’s not the case. In fact, I hope it rains in May, which will not only help out all the flowers, trees and grass, but help out the drought I heard Mom and Dad talking about the other day.
May is the third and final month of spring and we all know what spring is about, rejuvenation, rebirth and renewal. The days get longer and warmer, which means me and my siblings, Princess Lulu, Geno and Hugo get to spend more time outside with Mom and her team, especially at some of our favorite lunch spots in Carmel and Carmel Valley. Nothing like a yummy Cheese Plate and Charcuterie Board with some nice crisp Sauvignon Blanc at the patio of Corkscrew Cafe on a warm, sunny day.
May is also the month of notable days and holidays that I’m really looking forward to. In addition to May Day, Cinco de Mayo and Memorial Day, there’s one of my personal favorites, Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 10.
I love Mother’s Day because we get to celebrate Mom and all the great things she does for the four of us, get together with family and friends and eat some really good food. I’m sure Dad has something tasty on his mind to whip up for all of us. I plan on being the first in line, that is unless Geno beats me to it. He can be pretty sneaky.
And speaking of food, something I like as much as flowers and naps, May has some great food days, such as May 8th, National Coconut Cream Pie Day; May 13th, National Apple Pie Day; May 15th, National Chocolate Chip Day and National Pizza Party Day; May 17th, National Cherry Cobbler Day; and May 19th, National Devil’s Food Cake Day.
But if that list gives you the impression that I’m just about sweet pies and desserts, I’m circling two dates in red on my “Best Beaches in the World” calendar I got for Christmas: May 25th is National Wine Day, which is one of Mom’s favorites too; and
May 28th, which is two lip-smacking days in one, National Brisket Day and National Hamburger Day!
Now if we could get some rain, May will turn out to be a great month for flowers and food. Bon Appetit!
