January News from Rockin’ Rooney

Happy New Year! We made it to 2017. Boy, was 2016 a rough year, so many of our favorite celebrities passing away, from Prince to Princess Leia. But we can’t dwell on all that, we have to look forward and make this the best year we can.

So, January is National Blood Donor Month, National Hobby Month, Hot Tea Month, National Oatmeal Month and National Soup Month, but we all know what we do in January: Make resolutions!

I know, I know, we make resolutions, but by the end of the month, and sometimes before, we toss those resolutions out the window! In fact, they even have a day for it, Jan. 17, National Ditch New Year’s Resolutions Day. Which is pretty funny, because right after that day, there’s National Popcorn Day (19th), National Buttercrunch Day and National Cheese Lover Day (20th), National Blonde Brownie Day (22nd), National Pie Day (23rd), National Peanut Butter Day (24th, with Peanut Brittle Day on the 26th), National Chocolate Cake Day (27th), National Corn Chip Day (29th), National Blueberry Pancake Day (28) and National Croissant Day on the 30th.

Wow, you think a lot of people have “Eat less” or “Eat healthier” as their New Year’s resolutions? That’s why those days don’t come before Ditch New Year’s Resolutions Day!

Some of my favorites in January are Festival of Sleep Day on the 3rd (OK, so every day is a festival of sleep day for me), Dress Up Your Pet Day on the 14th (which also seems like every day around here!), 15 National Hat Day on the 15th, National Hugging Day (to go with National Cuddle Up Day on the 6th) and Squirrel Appreciation Day, both on the 21st, National Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day (30th), and, of course, Jan. 16, which is National Nothing Day, which I can celebrate with my eyes closed!

And here’s two that confused the heck out of me: National Opposite Day on the 25th and National Backward Day on the 31st.

So, since it is January and it is a tradition, here are my resolutions for 2017, in no particular order:

  1. Go on more walks with mom and dad and my siblings.
  2. Sleep more (if possible).
  3. Bark less (if possible).
  4. Take each day as it comes and don’t worry about tomorrow.
  5. Try not to irritate my siblings.
  6. Try to help out mom and dad around the house (haha, that won’t last until Ditch New Year’s Resolutions Day!)

Don’t forget Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday is on Jan. 16 and on the 24th, say something nice to someone, because it’s Compliment Day, which really should be every day!
