Happy Fourth of July! And welcome to the Dog Days of Summer! That’s July 3-Aug. 11, if you’re wondering. That’s a lot of dog days, not that I’m complaining! Not only dog days, but July has a lot of good days (Chocolate Day, French Fries Day and Pecan Pie Day, yum) as well as some outright weird days (Take Your Houseplants for a Walk Day?). It is, after all, National Anti-Boredom Month!
July has some of the best food days of the year, Chocolate Day on the 7th, Pecan Pie Day on the 12th and French Fries Day on the 13th we already covered, but there’s also:
1 Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day, 1 International Chicken Wing Day, 5 National Apple Turnover Day, 6 National Fried Chicken Day, 7 National Strawberry Sundae Day, 8 National Blueberry Day, 9 National Sugar Cookie Day, 15 Tapioca Pudding Day, 17 National Hot Dog Day and 17 Peach Ice Cream Day, 19 National Raspberry Cake Day, 20 National Ice Cream Soda Day, 20 National Lollipop Day, 21 National Ice Cream Day, 21 National Junk Food Day, 23 Vanilla Ice Cream Day, 28 National Milk Chocolate Day, 29 National Chicken Wing Day, 29 National Lasagna Day, and 30 National Cheesecake Day. It’s also National Blueberry Month, National Hot Dog Month and National Ice Cream Month.
The odd thing about July is that, unlike other months, there are very few really weird or off-the-wall days, unless you call International Cherry Pit Spitting Day (July 6) or Cow Appreciation Day (15th) or Take Your Pants for a Walk Day (July 27) weird.
And besides the Fourth of July, there aren’t any important days, unless you’re French, then on July 14th you’ll be celebrating Bastille Day, which is sort of like France’s Independence Day, the beginning of the democratic republic of France in 1789. Vive la France!
In addition to our Independence Day, the 4th is also National Country Music Day and Sidewalk Egg Frying Day. How do you eat an egg after frying it on the sidewalk? And wouldn’t it have to be like 100 degrees to do that? I’d rather have a grilled hot dog with all the trimmings, thank you! And don’t forget the potato chips!
