June News from Rockin’ Rooney

Well, it’s June, so we’re almost halfway through the year. But I’ve got to admit, and don’t take this the wrong way, but June’s kind of a boring month. Maybe because it’s between May, which had Mother’s Day and Memorial Day and the unofficial start to summer, and July, which has the Fourth of July and its barbecues and fireworks.

Sure, June has summer solstice on the 21st, but most people call that “It’s Finally Summer Day” because we’ve been in summer mode for almost a month. And yes, it has Father’s Day (17th), which is a great day to honor fathers, but doesn’t nearly measure up to Mother’s Day (sorry Dad!).

Besides, June 4 is Hug Your Cat Day, which is completely against my nature, even though people say I’m a good hugger! I think I’d rather celebrate National Cheese Day, which is also the 4th. Bring on the Cheddar!

Of course June also has World Ocean Day and Best Friends Day on the 8th, and lest I forget, Take Your Dog to Work Day on the 22nd, so June’s not all bad.

But really, VCR Day (7th), National Weed Your Garden Day (13th), World Sauntering Day (19th), National Selfie Day (21st), Swim a Lap Day on the 24th (only one lap?), Sunglasses Day on the 27th and International Mud Day on the 29th? By the way, what’s a VCR? And on Mud Day, we’re supposed to make mud and frolic in it? Mom’s really not going to like that day!

Oddly enough, the monthly celebrations in June are pretty important. June is Aquarium Month, Candy Month, Dairy Month, Gay Pride Month, National Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month, and Rose Month. Then they had to go a ruin it all by making it National Adopt a Cat Month and Fight the Filthy Fly Month.

Just kidding, I think it’s important to take care of our strays and rescues and give them new homes, even though they are, you know, pesky, silly creatures with no redeeming features. As for Filthy Fly, why devote a whole month to fighting them?

Well, there is one day I will be celebrating, June 23, which is National Columnists Day, a day that recognizes the importance and value of columnists! Does that mean someone’s going to take me out to lunch? Anyone?

Well, I’ll be waiting for my invite! Happy June!
