May News from Rockin’ Rooney

Rockin Rooney is preparing the #BulldogParkingLot for May 14 is also Dance Like a Chicken Day!

Happy May Day! Or, if you’re in or from Hawaii, Happy Lei Day! That means spring is in full swing and summer is just around the corner. May Day is celebrated around the world to celebrate that as well as the many spring showers that we’ve had over the last month. Remember that saying “April showers bring May flowers?” Well, that sure is true this year!

May is filled with a lot of fun days. There’s Cinco de Mayo on the 5th, Mother’s Day on the 14th, Memorial Day on May 29th, and — this one’s for Mom — National Wine Day on May 25th.

And let’s not forget, May 14 is also Dance Like a Chicken Day!

But I have a bone to pick about May. There’s not one single day for dogs. Not a one. I mean there’s even a National Sea Monkey Day! I don’t even know what that is. A monkey that lives in the sea? Well, they have a day, May 16!

Someone told me they thought that May 1 might by Purebred Dog Day, but I can’t confirm that. Even if it is, that’s just one day! One out of 31!

So, I have a proposal to make up for that. I propose that May is National French Bulldog Month, or if you prefer, Frenchie Month!

This month you have to be extra nice to us, pet us and scratch us behind the ears as often as possible, give us treats, take us on adventures and don’t bug us when we’re napping!

And don’t forget, that’s the whole month, not just one day. No pressure here, but we also accept gifts.

OK, we won’t hog the whole month. There are other great monthly celebrations for May, like Foster Care Month, National Barbecue Month, National Bike Month, National Blood Pressure Month, National Hamburger Month, National Photograph Month, National Salad Month and Older Americans Month.

As usual, in addition to Sea Monkey Day, there are some odd days in May, such as  Lumpy Rug Day (3rd), International Tuba Day (5th), Lost Sock Memorial Day on the 9th, (and the 8th is No Socks Day, go figure!), Eat What You Want Day (11th), and Don’t Fry Friday on the 26th.

But it’s not all fun and silliness. There are many really serious and significant days in May, such as Brothers and Sisters Day (2nd), World Press Freedom Day (3rd), National Nurses Day (6th), National Tourism Day (7th), World Red Cross Day (8th), National Teachers Day (9th), National Receptionist Day and School Nurses Day on the 10th, Police Officer’s Memorial Day (15th), Armed Forces Day (20th), National Waiters and Waitresses Day (21st) and Amnesty International Day on the 28th.

And don’t forget, Memorial Day isn’t just some fun holiday, it’s also a day that we pay tribute and remember the people who gave their lives while serving their country in the military.

Now that I think about it, that’s a lot of stuff. And a lot of significant stuff.  And now with a month to celebrate Frenchies, it’s even better, if I say so myself. Happy Month of May!
