Rockin’ Rooney welcomes June!

I’m back! Sorry I missed my blog last month, I got so into sheltering in place and chillin’ by binging my favorite shows on Netflix, such as season one of “Dogs,” and rewatching “Benji,” and “The Secret Life of Pets 1 & 2” that I forgot a had a blog to do! I don’t know what day it is much less what month it is!

So, it looks like we’re slowly getting back to “normal,” whatever that is. My concept of normal hasn’t changed much: eating, napping in the sun, taking walks, snacks and getting my belly rubbed. Pandemic or not, I need my belly rubs!

I have noticed that Mom and Dad have been at home a lot more than usual. A lot. Dad’s doing a lot of cooking and Mom seems busier than ever, only this time she’s at home more. Frankly, they’re driving us kind of nuts. I mean, all of us love Mom and Dad dearly, but to have them around 24/7, it’s a bit much. We need our space, too. And there’s more of us than them.

Be that as it may, we do get to go out from time to time, which is great. We make sure Mom and Dad have their masks with them if we’re going to be out in public. I know, I know, it’s a hassle, but we’re a kind and considerate family, so we feel it is a kindness and courtesy to other people. One of my buddies explained it to me like this: If for some reason you had to wear a muzzle (never, I’m not like that!) so as not to bite, it’s not for your protection, but to protect others. Seems pretty simple to me. And I’m just a dog.

So, for this month’s blog, since we’re all a little tired, on edge, frustrated and anxious, I’m going to concentrate on days that elicit happiness or joy. Not just weird stuff (which I like, let’s face it), but fun days, one that’ll put a smile on your face. We could all use as many smiles and laughs as we can these days!

So to kick it right off, June 1 is National Say Something Nice Day, which fits right into my theme. How about something like, “I really like your quarantine haircut.” See? Smiles all around. June 4 is National Cheese Day, and that always makes me smile. Mom and Dad too. June 6 is National Bubbly Day. Hmmm, how should we celebrate that day? Mom, any suggestions?

June 7 is National Cancer Survivor’s Day, and that’s always a reason to celebrate! June 11 is National Making Life Beautiful Day and June 12 is National Loving Day. Awwww, how sweet.

June 13 is National Kitchen Klutzes of America Day and June 14 is National Bourbon Day. I would have thought both of those would be on the same day! And, June 13 is also National Random Acts of Light Day, which encourages us to bring light to the darkness of cancer by surprising someone with an act of kindness. They say there are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.

June 18 is National Go Fishing Day, which should put a smile on Dad’s face. He needs to get out more! And throwing a line into water is one way to get out and enjoy the day.

June 20 is the first day of summer and the longest day of the year. I sure hope it’s warm and sunny. And the next day is Father’s Day and National Daylight Appreciation Day, which is a great day to celebrate fathers, the second-longest day of the year.

June 26 is Take Your Dog to Work Day, but since Mom and Dad are home all the time, what should we do? We’re already at work!

And to wrap it all up, June 15 is National Smile Power Day. But shouldn’t every day be National Smile Power Day?

Have a great June, and stay safe and healthy out there! And smile!
